) This site is the dedicated to EFnet #Mensa IRC chat channel and not formally affiliated with the Mensa Organization itself. It is not a replacement or emulation of any past or present website devoted to this pleasant place, but merely provided for the use of its members and to answer the usual questions of visitors to the channel.
Membership
Membership in Mensa is not a requirement for admission to the IRC chat channel. This International High I.Q. Society has national chapters in almost every country and requires a intelligence score in the top 2% of the tested population. A wide variety of nationally standardized test scores are accepted for qualification. If you are curious whether you might be eligible, you can try the mensa workout or one of many on-line I.Q. tests.
Please don't come into the channel expecting the members to help you answer questions which have stumped you. Many, if not most, of the members qualify to belong to Mensa although only a small portion of them are active, dues-paying members.
Ambiance
We try to maintain a convivial atmosphere in the channel conducive to conversation on almost any topic, general or abstruse. Many times it is a place where you can even learn something from someone who has a particular expertise or field of knowledge. Our membership spans across a broad range of interests and ages.
If a stimulating discussion isn't underway when you enter the channel, please feel free to start one.
Members
A few links and pictures of our regular channel members have been collected for the curious. If you would like to be included, you may provide or update your link with our submission page if your browser supports forms or by e-mail if you wish to provide a suitable picture and have no web site of your own. Perhaps when you are done visiting the site you can offer some feedback of your impression of it and anything we can do to improve it.
FAQ and Guidelines
You may peruse our FAQ for the general channel guidelines and might care to read some comments about temporary bans placed on those who disrupt the channel. Hopefully, you have not been among them.
IRC Help
There is some IRC help for neophytes which includes a discussion of the more common chat clients with sources and a few caveats on each. There is also a IRC chat applet that works through your browser.
Logs
A smattering of channel chatter has been collected in some memorable logs and a search engine provided to allow the interested to sample the flavour of #mensa banter and discussions.
