Hi brainrot :) Like hi. thank you mr shrink Anyway. Do any of you people have to deal with fuse boxes? I'm confused. I do. auto or household? Okay. Earlier today... household i have a breaker box My refrigerator stopped working. I tested something I figured was on the same circuit, and that wasn't working either. cool jonesey Hi guess So I ran off to Walgreens and got the three different fuses they have. Orange blue and clear. okay.. sounds like a fuse then... I came back. First off I pulled the big fuse thing out of the top. I smelled ion. I thought oh oh. I put it back. I looked at the fuses and one looked like maybe it was no good. So I took it out. the big fuse at the top? did u replace it? And I tried to put in a new orange fuse. It wouldn't fit. hmmm.. So I put back the original fuse and came back upstairs. <_`glo> HGTV is fascinating me with its installing of under-floor radiant heating prob easiest to take old one to hardware store and get them to replace it And the refrigerator is running. I don't get it. br:Hm ohoh. if it is corrosion on the contacts, it's a firehazard <_`glo> it was maybe loose I didn't see any corrosion. heh replacing the fuse with old one may have cleaned the contacts. it would not have to be much brainrot. just some discoloration. So you think the current is possibly running through corrosion? was the fuse hot when you removed it? Not much... it would quickly overheat if it wre. No. Well I didn't wait to see if it got hot. If it had been running like that just before you removed it should have been warm. it might take a while to get hot, brainrot. smelling ozone is not a good sign... <_`glo> it was probably loose then It wasn't running, I hadn't ever touched the fuses before either. brainrot, it was not runnning when you went down. right? Right. <_`glo> biab, ice cream it usually means there is a bad connection resulting in arcing... It wasn't loose either. This would make me very nervous. arcing = very bad is the fuse box on a wooden wall? When I was screwing in the new one (that didn't fit right) I saw arcing and got ervous. It's not too far from wood. well, doing that will cause a sparc... spark. So like. you should open the main switch before changing fuses. could you not turn off the big switch before removing the fuse? that is very dangerous. I should just call my landlord. will he pay any attention? Probably not. that's what I assumed. So I AM supposed to leave the main switch open? even with a fire hazard? er, shut off. open switch=shut off I can just take the fuse out altogether . Cause the only think running on it is the fridge. switch the main switch off before removing any fuse. Otherwise it is a big safety hazard. but the arcing may not be at the fuse connection itself, it may be at the wire connection on the back side of the box.... We'd hate to lose you, brainrot. get a flashlight first heh I don't have a flashlight. I don't need one, there's a light right next to the boxes. but if you throw the main switch it may turn off that light No no. The fuses are to my apartment only. ahh, okay :) Okay. I'm removing it. there goes the pc heh Tsk tsk. No UPS. :) * Pladeaux prays for brainrot heh i hate fuses any word on her date? ? ! haha date? I think he really did it now hehe we need another word for "date" sky:So what was that on br's date? she has a big date coming up, I think. Oh, really Uhm. well? WTF? how did it work? Okay. we are waiting I took a really good look at two fuses that I thought were burnt. They are. No bar across the window. I removed both. I plugged in the main. I came back upstairs. And the refrigerator is still running. But now my bathroom and bedroom lights don't work. hmmmm... haha go put them back in , see what happens These babies have big brass rings around them. The cheap things I picked up at Walgreens didn't. what did they have instead? <_`glo> back Nothing, just plastic. So. hmmmm... I'm really confused. I wish I could see them. Maybe I should call in a city inspector. I have a tester, too. You can! I have a quickcam. haha I have no graphics :( * Skyman is a cave-man. <|killjoy|> and a curmudgeon *** Skyman is now known as cave-man ask a neighbor <|killjoy|> wtf we talking about? fuse boxes <_`glo> brainrot blew a fuse haha So like if I go downstairs and plug these bad fuses in , my lights will work. bound to happen ? <_`glo> if somebody tells her to stick a penny in it I'll brain'em hahahah <_`glo> heheh, they must be better than they look <|killjoy|> so what's the deal? changing back heh *** cave-man is now known as Skyman Maybe these types don't have bars? <|killjoy|> just match the amperage are these edison base fuses? I dunno what that is. the screw in type? Yes. But so are the ones I got from Walgreens. <|killjoy|> short base or long? <_`glo> a fuse has a strip of metal in it that's intended to burn out if there's too much current so that if there's an overload IT DOESN'T START A FIRE IN THE WIRING INSIDE THE WALLS. <|killjoy|> most fuses are short base, so just match the amperage (usually 12 or 15) and screw away <_`glo> if you're replacing a fuse, take the burntout one with you so you can replace it with exactly the same thing don't you just use a nickel? <_`glo> it's much easier to have it in your hand than to be trying to compare mental images <_`glo> SO A FIRE DOESN'T START INSIDE THE WALL, QUART That's why nickles have "In God we trust" on them. quart hahah lol <_`glo> this is why we say quarf's half a quart low ;) <|killjoy|> where's the confusion? hahaha The new ones don't have a visible bar either. haha They both have a metal link at an angle inside the fuse. on the bottom of the old one, there should be a number... same thing <|killjoy|> diff companies use different techniques 20 or 30 0r something like that. be sure to match up the numbers. They're both 20 amps. good :) <|killjoy|> that's all you need you're in business :) They're both Orange. put the new ones in. One doesn't fit. I tried that. <|killjoy|> base too long? sounds like maybe only one was bad? <|killjoy|> this is definitely log material This is retarded. <|killjoy|> "watch us try to change a fuse" Oh, they're not plastic, just cheaper porcelain. I'm thinking maybe just the fridge is whacked. <_`glo> LOL kj "How many #mensans does it take to change a fuse?" <|killjoy|> i like cq's better :) rofl first we have to define clockwise. <|killjoy|> nothing wise about my clocks <|killjoy|> is clockwise anything like booksmart? look at your digital watch... now, define clockwise. Now wait. It CAN'T be the fridge. Because the toaster oven didn't work either. <|killjoy|> that's gotta be more than 20 amps Aha! That's what I was thinking. The other ones aren't burnt out. THere's only one 30 amp fuse. It looks fine. before tomorrows end check each fuse and what it goes to and label it :P <|killjoy|> if you suddenly disconnect we'll assume you found the problem <|killjoy|> there's usually a table attached to the fusebox door for just that purpose How is the saga of Brainrot's fusebox coming? <|killjoy|> she'll have to log back on as brainfried brainfries hehe mensa to brainrot, come in brainrot A fusebox is a fine place to obtain a free afro hairdo. Okay. yah! so what happend I put the fuses back. Now everything's working. everything working woo It had to have been a freak thing with that circuit. The mains are one-time fuses. maybe it was the outlet the fridge and toaster oven are plugged into dont teach bad habits RT me? Is anyone awake still?
